Thiess India wins MDO contract for NTPC Ltd's Pakri Barwadih Coal Project

Thiess India has won a landmark mine development and life of mine operating contract for the prestigious Pakri Barwadih coal project in Jharkhand from NTPC Limited.

NTPC Limited is India's biggest electricity generator with an installed generation capacity of 32,694 MW. This contract is one of the largest contracts ever awarded by NTPC.

Pakri Barwadih will be the first of six mines NTPC Limited intends to develop to provide low cost coal for its power stations, replacing expensive imported coal.

Appointment of Chief Executive, Thiess India Pvt. Ltd.

Dr. Raman Srikanth joined as the Chief Executive, Thiess India Pvt. Ltd. on Wednesday 24th November, 2010, based in our Kolkata office.

Dr. Srikanth graduated as a Mining Engineer from Indian School of Mines in 1984 and in 1996 completed a PhD in Mining Engineering & Operations Research at the Penn State University in USA. He started his career as a graduate with Coal India companies in underground coal mines, mine planning and preparation of feasibility studies. After returning from the USA in 1997, Dr. Srikanth joined Tata Steel and served in various roles in the Raw Materials and Engineering Divisions of Tata Steel, as well as India's first Coal to Liquids Project.He was appointed as General Manager (Ore Mines & Quarries) in September 2006. In September 2007, he was appointed General Manager (Raw Materials Projects) responsible for the conceptualising, delivery and commissioning of brown and greenfields capital projects to ensure raw materials security for Tata Steel India.
