Thiess Minecs India Pvt. Ltd. (90% owned subsidiary of Thiess) has been awarded a project by one of India’s Maharatnas, NTPC Limited (NTPC) to develop, construct & operate a 15 MTPA Coal Mining Project at Pakri Barwadih. The Pakri Barwadih Block is located in North Karanpura Coalfields in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand state. The block has been allotted to NTPC Ltd for captive mining for supply of coal to their super thermal power stations. Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India has already granted environment clearance to the project for the production capacity of 15 MTPA of coal. Similarly, Forest department has accorded Stage II clearance for the project. The Thiess Minecs scope in the Pakri Barwadih project involves the construction and/ or operation of the following facilities in addition to operating the mine for its entire life of 25 years.
a) A 3000 TPH Coal Handling Plant capable of storing 400,000 tonne of crushed coal (-50 MM) and despatching the coal through a series of overland conveyors which will be constructed by NTPC.
b) Mine Infrastructure including, world class Heavy earth-moving equipment workshops, stockyards for various types of spares and consumables, offices, welfare amenities, diesel storage & dispensing systems, bulk explosive plants, and associated installations worth Rs 500 crores.
c) A 13 Km long overland conveyor network and Rapid loading system discharging into Indian Railways System to be constructed by NTPC..
d) A self-contained residential colony to house the Managers, Engineers and Staff required to construct operate and maintain the above facilities.
e) All utilities required for the construction and operation of the above.
To attract and retain the best people to develop and operate the Pakri Barwadih project, Thiess Minecs offer staff members(all officers & selected supervisors) the option of staying in suitable bachelor accommodation in the proposed Thiess Minecs camp at Pakri Barwadih, while their family members can stay in Ranchi (Jharkhand’s capital) or Hazaribagh (District /Town).Thiess Minecs will provide a complimentary staff bus to transport the staff members to and from central places in these towns to the Thiess Project camp/mine. Suitable rosters and work schedule will be developed to facilitate this arrangement in the interest of the Project.
